build your own action replay for xbox

situation: had a store credit at gamestop, bought madden 06, didn’t like it. honestly, last year’s espn blows it away. there’s updated 2005-06 rosters at nfl2K5forever.com and codejunkies, but do i really want to plunk down $30-$40 for an action replay?
solution: build your own action replay, using a usb cable and breakaway xbox controller cable.
1) cut ends off of cables and strip as pictured.
2) strip and then match up individual wires (red, white, green, black) except for yellow wire on xbox controller, you can just cut that one entirely.
3) attach matched up wires with solder or electrical tape.
4) download and install action replay software and xid drivers on pc.
5) plug in controller (do NOT insert memory card) to pc and point the install new hardware wizard to the xid drivers folder.
6) once installed, insert memory card. point the install new hardware wizard to program files/action replay/drivers.
7) congratulations, you’ve just built your own action replay for xbox for about $10.
if you don’t already own a memory card, i’d suggest buying the action replay unit plus 8MB card, which sells for about $30 new. however, if you already have a memory card this is a fun and very easy project.
