where pierogis meet punk
Published by james November 9th, 2005 in music, reviewssunday’s sold-out spoon/american music club/mary timony show was awesome and well worth the hike up to brooklyn. a polish national hall by day and venue by night, the warsaw is a really cool place to see shows. no smoking AND there’s pierogis and kielbasa readily available for purchase and consumption.
mary timony had a different drummer (asian, thick glasses, insane player), amc played as a three piece (eitzel, mooney & pearson) and spoon were record-perfect playing a lot more from girls can tell and series of sneaks than i would have predicted. picked up some sweet amc shirts as well as two new eitzel releases - candy ass, which features originals and soundtrack work (my pet rat st. michael stands out) and demos before love songs, which is a collection of demos eitzel put together while amc was still broken up. most of these songs ended up on love songs for patriots. not sure how this would appeal to the casual listener but recommended for amc fans and completists such as myself. between brooklyn, $45 worth of comics at a garage sale and dinner at the awesome sahara grill, i spent way too much money this weekend.
update: the drummer in question’s name was joe wong. he was pretty awesome.

I so agree with you that the show at the warsaw last weekend was rockin. I had never been to the venue before, and had also never really listened to mary timonhy and AMC. It was like hearing some great rock n roll in my middle school auditorium (with pierogies). :)
great photo, i think we’re in there somewhere!
