you guys are too much! here’s a list of some of the great stuff i got for my birthday:

r. kelly - trapped in the closet: chapters 1-12 from mike. one of these weekends i’m going to have a trapped in the closet dvd viewing party. it’s truly one of the greatest stories ever told.

EBgames gift card from nolan & colleen, iTunes store gift card from bob. i used the EB card to get x-men legends II: the rise of apocalypse. better than the original but a little too repetitive so far, i might exchange this for true crime: new york city.

from the iTunes store i purchased greg dulli’s amber headlights and an exclusive live session from M.I.A. amber headlights is a natural progression from the sound of the twilight singers’ blackberry belle, which makes sense because these songs were recorded in 2003. after a few listens, i like it a lot. dulli is really milking the line “get the wheel let’s go for a ride / if you’re troubled i’ll follow you down” from BB’s “follow you down”, as it’s used as the chorus for one song and reprised in another.

the M.I.A. iTunes session consists of live performances of “bucky done gun”, “fire fire”, “galang” and “sunshowers”. they’re not so great - the tracks don’t offer anything new from the album versions, the backup singer on “sunshowers” sounds terrible and to top it all off the tracks are censored. meh.

lone wolf and cub vols. 3-5 from aaron & beth. i’ve been a big fan of this manga series since watching shogun assassin a bunch of years ago. i burned through 3 & 4 over the past two days, it’s soooo good. only 22 more volumes to get.

who put the m in manchester from matt & kellee: this is the morrissey dvd that came out earlier in the year and i’d been meaning to get it since seeing it on CN8 last summer. not a ton of extras (there’s some other festival footage, three videos from you are the quarry and PETA’s meet your meat video) but the performance is incredible. highest recommendation.

screwjack and generation of swine by hunter s. thompson from michelle. i read the latter a while ago but never had my own copy and i’ve yet to read the former. i’m looking forward to it.

a ton of stuff from my wish list (astonishing x-men vol. 2: dangerous, JLA vols. 1 & 2, batman begins on dvd) and a speaker hoodie from monica. we saw the speaker hoodie in target a few weeks ago (the same night i scored a sweet track jacket for $12.80 and sneakers for $6.24). basically it’s a hoodie with speakers built into the hood and an audio jack inside a hidden pocket for your mp3 player. it’s a little bit kiddie-looking (it’s actually from the boys’ department) but i love it.
