my OWA is SLOWA

more work notes: internal access to OWA via http://mail.mydomain.com/exchange is slow when the computer is logged onto the domain and using a proxy server, however IE is set to not use proxy for local hosts.

the interesting thing is that access to OWA via http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/exchange works fine (and that’s my current workaround). likewise, http://mail.mydomain.com/exchange is fine from outside addresses or if i use an internal IP address manually configured with with external DNS. so, my thinking is that one of my servers’ DNS is misconfigured. on tuesday i’m going to check the following:

- configuration on DNS server. want to make sure i have lookup zones entered correctly.
- DNS settings on other servers. i was always under the impression that you should always use internal addresses for DNS on all servers but maybe ISP DNS should be added? i wonder if i updated DNS settings on the proxy after installing the new DNS server this summer?

on another note, i started installing smart technologies’ synchroneyes classroom management software yesterday in the computer lab. it has some really robust features. the only problem is that after i install the student module, it causes a BSOD on reboot with a fatal error, citing a problem with windows logon. this happened on the first three machines. the only way you can get back into windows is to go into safe mode (i get BSOD on safe mode with networking too) and you can’t uninstall the software because safe mode won’t let you run windows installer. what i ended up doing was deleting all the references to synchroneyes in regedit, rebooting normally, running a cleanup tool from smart technologies, disabling SAV and installing the 6.1 update. that seemed to get it to work but i’m not 100% convinced that i won’t get the same error installing on the rest of the machines. we’ll have to see.
