attack of the B-movies
Published by james October 11th, 2006 in film, reviewstwo movies that aren’t good in the strictest sense of the word but i wholeheartedly recommend them:
the protector - i’ve a huge tony jaa fan since the release of ong bak: muay thai warrior and this followup, while not a sequel, ups the ante like crazy. the story is completely ridiculous. jaa plays a boy who raises elephants. two of the elephants are stolen by poachers and it’s up to jaa to follow them to australia and kill everyone in his path until he gets them back. if you take it seriously, it’s a horrible plot. if you accept it as camp, it’s awesome. the action scenes and fight scenes are totally insane and just like ong bak, there is no CGI or wires in the action scenes; just jaa pulling off moves that you will not see anywhere else.
slither - i admit that i was first interested in seeing this movie because firefly’s nathan fillion was starring in it. jenna fischer from the office is in it too but she has a very small role. the movie begins with a small, worm-like alien life form landing outside a small town. from there, it infects one of its prominent residents by launching itself into his chest and it just gets more gross and hilarious as it goes on. i don’t want to spoil anything further. this movie is like a cross between alien, the thing, shawn of the dead and tremors. although slither may not be as quite as good as any of those movies it’s still some must-see B-movie goodness.
