grilled ginger-garlic marinated tofu
Published by james May 21st, 2007 in recipes for monkeyskristin gave me this recipe and i heartily recommend it:
1/2 cup mirin
3 tbs tamari
2 tbs rice wine vinegar
1 tbs sesame oil
2 teaspoons asian chile sauce
1-inch chunk ginger, peeled and coarsley chopped
2 gloves garlic, smashed and/or chopped
1. combine all marinade ingredients in a shallow bowl.
2. after the tofu has been drained and pressed, cut it widthwise into four equal pieces.
3. marinate for an hour, flipping over after 30 minutes.
4. grill using a stovetop grill pan, or bake at 400 for 20 minutes on one side and 10 minutes on the other side.
substituted soy sauce for tamari and probably used too much ginger but all in all it was super tasty. another great suggestion by kristin was to make some gravy by cooking the leftover marinade with about a 1/2 tsp of cornstarch. it was so good that monica and i almost stabbed each other over the last piece of tofu.
