summer MD

summer vacation has been nice. i was at the beach for a while, off from work even longer and i have no complaints, except for transformers. that film didn’t even meet my lowered expectations. all i want in a movie about robots fighting is… robots fighting. instead i was subjected to like, ten robots, way too much story, no logic, lame jokes and a second act that was like an american pie outtake.

- harry potter and the order of the phoenix was markedly better, probably ranking even with goblet of fire as my second favorite film in the series. while on the subject, order of the phoenix was my least favorite book so far and i’d forgotten a lot of the details, so i started re-reading it along with the half-blood prince before i take on the deadly hallows.

- aside from picking up the amazing rally racer DiRT a few weeks ago, i’ve barely touched my 360 this summer. instead i’ve spent most of my time playing PS2. tomb raider anniversary could be the best TR ever. takes the best parts of TR: legend (improved controls, engaging puzzles), eliminates 80% of the combat and focuses on the platforming that made the originals so much fun. i think i’m about 1/3 of the way through god of war 2and it’s been excellent so far. meanwhile, katamari damacy - is ruining my stupid life. i’m not sold on the idea of video games as art at all, but shadow of the colossus, from the makers of ICO, is as close to an artistic statement as one can get. finally, guitar hero 2: 80s edition is charging people $60 a pop for what’s basically an expansion pack. for shame.

yeah, i’m thirteen years old.
