mail functions and www service on the mail server at work stopped responding after hours yesterday. stopped by this morning to check things out. MS exchange information store seemed to be running but would not respond when restarted from the services console. after reboot, it seemed to take much longer than normal for mail functions and www service to start up, some didn’t start at all.

had to start MS exchange information store and MTA stacks manually. both would time out and then finally start a few minutes later. afterwards, i could compose emails but they weren’t coming through. checked services again, started GFI POP2Exchange manually (normally set to automatic). worked on the second try. then went into exchange system manager, checked for routed messages. there were about 1200-1300 emails in the queue. deleted the obvious spam and then tested emails to and from internal & external addresses. just tested OWA from home, things seem to be OK. regrun & symantec didn’t find anything.
